A Brief Introduction to AWS NAS Storage Cloud
AWS NAS storage cloud provides services for object storage, lowering the overall cloud storage cost of cool, secondary data for backup, storage, disaster recovery and other use cases.
Before we dive in further into the use cases of AWS NAS storage, let us first explain it a bit.
AWS NAS Storage Cloud for Enterprises- Explanation
AWS NAS storage cloud for enterprises, is a software-defined full-featured enterprise cloud NAS filer for a primary data using either block, object or both types of storage. AWS NAS storage cloud enables existing applications to be securely migrated without re-engineering and with dedicated and predictably high performance.
AWS NAS Storage cloud is a fully integrated cloud data platform for enterprises that want to go digital fast with hybrid and multi-cloud deployments while also maintaining control over price, performance, security and reliability.
It can move enterprise data from more expensive high-performance block storage to less expensive object storage which reduces public storage costs significantly.
What Features Does AWS NAS Storage Offer?
AWS NAS Storage cloud for enterprise includes all of the features of AWS NAS Storage cloud such as encryption, delta-based snapshots, automated multi-tiering, scalability and much more.
It can be used in the following use cases:
- To enable applications for Software as a Service (SaaS)
- To migrate business applications to the cloud
- File server consolidation
- Legacy NAS replacement
- Backup repositories
- Disaster recovery targets
- Archive
- File server consolidation
- File services for object storage
- Backup target repositories
- Media and medical data archive
- Serverless storage target for SaaS
- Lift and shift migrations to the AWS public cloud
- Global content publishing (one-to-many replication)
- Data aggression (many-to-one replication
- Big data storage integration
- Hybrid cloud and multi-cloud integration
- Remote office/ branch office file storage, sharing and collaboration
- Automated storage tiering
What Else AWS NAS Storage Cloud Does?
AWS NAS Storage cloud also handles:
- REST APIs and Automation
- High-speed bulk data transfer
- Flexible data integration
- Data migration through lift and shift operation to the cloud
- Automated data migration and synchronization between multiple locations
AWS NAS Storage Cloud Benefits- Automated Storage Tiering
In addition to the many use cases of AWS NAS storage cloud, one of the main and influential benefit of it is automated storage tiering. There are three tiers, namely; hot tier, cold tier and archive tier.
Hot tier consists of all the data that is more frequently used. Cold tier is used to store data that is less frequently used and may only be needed once in a week or month. Lastly, archive layer has the data that is very rarely used and is mainly used for historical references and is accessed after years.
With automated tiering, automated allocation of data is done to the appropriate tiers on the basis of frequency at which the files were accessed. There is no need for manual allocation, it is done once by configuring the algorithm. As a result, this saves a lot of time for the enterprise as data is allocated automatically to hot, cold and archive tier respectively.
Conclusion
AWS cloud storage offers a lot of benefits and use cases which makes it a good fit for all kinds on enterprises. Automated tiering enables enterprises to automatically allocate data to the respective tier based on how frequently it was accessed.
